Wi-Fi and home networks
Wi-Fi and home network installation
Slow rooms and dropouts are usually a Wi-Fi problem inside the building, not the NBN. We find the cause on-site and fix it with better placement, mesh access points or data cabling.
First, the cause
Line speed and Wi-Fi coverage are different things
Your internet plan sets the speed that arrives at the NBN box. Wi-Fi decides how much of it reaches each room. Brick walls, floors, distance and an old or badly placed router can lose most of it on the way.
A quick check: run the speed test in the problem room, then next to the router. If it's fast at the router and slow in the room, the fix is inside the house, and that's what we do.
If the line itself is down or slow at the box, that one is for your internet provider to fix, and we'll tell you so rather than sell you hardware you don't need.
Options
How it usually gets fixed
Better placement and set-up
Sometimes moving the router out of a cupboard and correcting its settings is enough.
Mesh access points
Several access points working as one network. They work best when they can be joined by a cable.
Data cabling
Network points to the office, TV and access points: the most reliable result, especially for work and streaming.
Sheds and granny flats
For a separate building, a point-to-point wireless link often beats stretching Wi-Fi across the yard.

Questions
Wi-Fi questions
Is it my NBN or my Wi-Fi?
Most of the time the line into the building is fine and the trouble is inside: where the router sits, old hardware, or walls the signal can't get through. An on-site test in each room shows which it is.
Will a new router fix it?
Sometimes, but often not on its own. A single router, however good, struggles through brick walls and floors. We test first, so you only pay for what will actually fix it.
Do I need cabling?
Not always. Cabling is the most reliable option and helps mesh work at its best, but it isn't the only fix. The quote explains the options and trade-offs.
Can you do business Wi-Fi?
Yes: office and shop Wi-Fi and cabling, with ongoing support plans available if you want them.
